Hickies

Hickies the embarrassing lovers mark. They may be fun to get but they draw lots of attention quickly because of the bright colors. Sometimes it is easy to just use a little concealer and cover up to disguise this blemish. Other times it seems that a pound of makeup won't make the slightest difference. Big or little obvious or discrete these tips will help you get rid of hickies fast.

Bringing down the swelling

First things first this is a bruise. Bruises are broken blood vessels under the skin. This makes your skin swell up and turn funny colors. They also hurt! If this is a particularly painful bruise you wanna take something for the swelling and discomfort. You could just take some Ibuprofen to take down the swelling but there are some more natural things you could try some are listed below.

Ice packs

Using cold compresses

Right after you get a hickie it is best to use a cold compress. You can use an ice pack or a a frozen spoon to do this. Hold the ice pack on the bruise for five to ten minutes. If you use a frozen spoon get it wet then freeze it. Hold the spoon on the hickie until it is no longer cold. I have no idea why using a spoon works so well bu it does. Frozen spoons are like anti hickie magic. No matter what method you use you are going to want to do this three times a day for the best results.

Using heat compresses

The second day you want to use heat compresses. This helps promote new skin and blood vessel growth. You can use a heat pack for this. You should do this about three times a day for the next day or two. Hold the compress on the bruise for ten minutes or until the compress becomes cold.

Massaging the bruise

I know it doesn't sound like fun but massaging helps the healing process go faster. This is because massage breaks up any blood clots and increases the flow of blood. The better the blood flow the faster the bruise goes away. To massage your bruise start at the center and rub slowly towards the edges. Doing this a couple times a day speeds up the healing process.

Topical treatments

There are a few things that you can put on your skin to help the healing go faster. The key is moisture and antioxidants. These are good for your skin on a day to day basis but even better for you when your skin is in serious need of repair. Bruises often dry out the skin. The best time to apply these is when you are massaging the bruise. Applying any of the listed bellow a couple times a day will help the healing go faster.

  • Aloe Vera
  • Witch hazel
  • Peppermint
  • Neosporin
  • Toothpaste (rub it in with the back of your tooth brush)
